Akasa Airlines, one of the newer airlines in India, has a pet-friendly policy that allows travelling with pets. But before you decide to fly with pets, here's what you need to know.
- Currently, only cats and dogs that are aged three months or older are allowed to travel
- Pet travel booking needs to be done 48 hours before flight departure
- A properly validated vaccination and health certificate from a registered vet must be obtained within 72 hours of travel. Once procured, this health certificate will be considered valid for 15 days from the date of its issuance.

1. Standard excess baggage charges by weight/piece will be applied regardless of whether the free baggage allowance is utilised. The free baggage allowance will not include pet carriage, including the weight of containers or pet carriers.
2. The charges that apply are based on the excess baggage fee depending on the following:
- Weight of your pet
- The weight of the container, i.e., the kennel, cage, or bag.

Air India welcomes domesticated dogs and cats on their flights, providing the option for them to travel in the passenger cabin or as baggage in the cargo compartment, with the following guidelines:
- Pets must be at least eight weeks old to travel in the cabin and three months old to travel in the cargo hold.
- Pregnant pets or those that have given birth within the last 48 hours are not permitted for the safety of the animals.
- All dog and cat breeds are allowed in the cabin.
- Due to health risks, snub-nosed or flat-faced breeds are not permitted in the cargo. Owners of these breeds should consult a vet before flying and are responsible for any health issues.
- Pets can fly in the cabin if the combined weight of the pet and its container is under 7 kg.
- Pets over 7 kg and under 32 kg must travel in the cargo hold.
- The pet must travel as cargo if the combined weight exceeds 32 kg.
- The container must be a soft, ventilated bag or kennel not exceeding 46 cm x 46 cm x 30 cm.
- Only two pets are allowed in the cabin per flight, and a passenger must accompany each.
- Label each pet’s carrier with its name and equip it with an extra absorbent mat. Carry additional mats for longer journeys.
- Do not sedate or cloak your pet, as per IATA standards. This hinders health assessments and can pose a risk due to pressure differences during flight.
- Containers should not contain any food items.
- Unaccompanied minors cannot travel with pets.
- If travelling with an infant or requiring wheelchair assistance, it is recommended that pets travel in the cargo hold for safety.
- Carry validated vaccination and health certificates (duly signed and stamped) from the sanitation department advising that the animal is in good health at most 72 hours before the travel date.
- A certificate confirming that the animal has been inoculated for rabies by a registered veterinarian.
- Download and complete the indemnity form. For direct flights, fill out and carry two copies of the indemnity form.
- Bring the original documents along with the photocopies to be submitted when check-in at airports.
